TL;DR

  • Google has explained how it designed the hinge on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
  • Instead of gears, the hinge uses mechanical components called CAMs.
  • Changing the design of the hinge allowed for a bigger screen, a larger battery, and a thinner build.

When it comes to foldables, the hinge is one of the most important parts of the device. How the hinge is designed can dictate how the rest of the smartphone is made. For the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Google decided to change the design of the hinge. The tech giant has now explained how the new hinge benefited the Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s development.

Meta’s AR glasses offer groundbreaking display tech at the cost of repairability

2025-10-10T03:03:31+00:00
TL;DR

  • iFixit dismantled the new Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses and found impressive AR optics but frustratingly poor repairability.
  • The 960mWh battery could be replaced in theory, although Meta doesn’t sell spares, and the process is far from easy.
  • A new geometric waveguide design addresses common AR issues, such as eye glow and rainbow artifacts.

If the Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses are the future of wearable tech, that future’s going to be hard to fix. The teardown specialists at iFixit have taken apart Meta’s new $800 augmented reality specs and found cutting-edge optical engineering, but not much thought for repairability.

According to iFixit’s teardown, every component of the glasses is sealed tight, with the entire frame glued and no easy way to replace the most obvious wear-out part: the battery. The teardown revealed a 960mWh battery, but the process of reaching it required specialist tools and a dose of luck to avoid damaging the delicate ribbon cable underneath. iFixit did say that “battery repair isn’t totally impossible here, provided you can get your hands on a replacement battery (which Meta hasn’t yet made available).”

TL;DR

  • A massive leak may have revealed almost everything about Samsung’s XR headset.
  • The headset will feature more pixels and weigh less than the Vision Pro.
  • The battery offers 2.5 hours of video playback and two hours of general use.

It’s well known that Samsung has been busy working on an XR headset known as Project Moohan. It’s believed that the device will ultimately be branded as Galaxy XR. While the device has been shown off officially several times throughout the year, there’s still plenty that remains unknown about the headgear. But a massive leak has helped to fill in many of those gaps.

YouTube will start letting the worst creators back on the platform

2025-10-10T03:03:27+00:00
TL;DR

  • YouTube will begin letting certain terminated creators make new channels.
  • Eligible accounts will see the option appear at some point over the next few weeks.
  • The company notes that “not every type of channel termination will be eligible” but seems intentionally vague on details.

YouTube policy enforcement isn’t great, to put things mildly, and the platform has a reputation for often being unnecessarily difficult for creators, exposing them to spurious copyright claims and the like. But for all the ways YouTube struggles there, we’ve had to give Google credit for the steps it’s taken to silence some of the worst people you’ll find both on- and offline, spreading politically motivated lies and doing real harm through their messaging. And now, in all its wisdom, it’s letting them back.

Here’s your first look at Gemini in Google Maps navigation

2025-10-10T03:03:26+00:00
TL;DR

  • We were able to activate a new Gemini integration in the latest Google Maps beta.
  • Gemini will eventually replace the Google Assistant for hands-free control during navigation.
  • The change isn’t live in any user-facing version of Maps, but we expect it could be coming soon in an update.

Google’s still engaged in a years-long project to replace the legacy Google Assistant with its newer Gemini AI assistant across its entire ecosystem. It looks like Google Maps navigation is next in line for that treatment.

Experimenting with version 25.41.03.815390258 beta of the Google Maps app, we were able to activate a new Gemini integration. When enabled, this integration sees Gemini respond when you tap the microphone icon in the top right corner of the navigation interface, rather than the the Google Assistant. This is the second in-progress Google Maps/Gemini integration we’ve spotted this week.

TL;DR

  • Motorola’s upcoming slim phone has leaked entirely.
  • A Polish e-commerce website has revealed its specifications, design, and colors.
  • Motorola has begun teasing the phone in China, where it is expected to launch next month.

Motorola has already confirmed that it is joining the thin-and-light-phone club alongside the likes of Samsung, Apple, and Tecno. After all, Motorola’s flagship lineup already has an Edge over the others. The slim phone, likely called the Edge 70 globally, is set to arrive in China first as the Edge 70 Air. And while its decently sized battery and fast charging speeds have already been confirmed officially, a recent leak has spilled the beans on the rest of the specifications.

The Edge 70 has already been listed for sale by the Polish e-commerce website X-Kom (via GSMArena). The listing reveals the design of the Edge 70, along with different color options and a comprehensive list of specifications. It also echoes the officially revealed battery capacity and charging speeds.
